My second original

After Ghost, I wanted to go further. Confession is my second original — no sample, no remix, pure creation — but this time the story is more personal. It's a confession in the truest sense: a man alone on the highway, talking to the only thing that never lies back to him. The road.

Like everything I make, it lives in the world of 2Pac — that mix of street weight and spiritual unease — but every sound you hear is built from scratch in my studio in Montréal. The DNA is West Coast. The body is deep house.

The story behind it

The whole track is built around one idea: only the road understands. The verses move through loyalty, scars, prayers whispered at high speed — "Hail Mary on the highway when the engine grind." It's about carrying your past in the passenger seat and driving anyway.

There's a reason the chorus strips down to two words — "Only the road." When the bass drops out and that line sits alone, that's the confession. Everything else is noise. The road is the one judge that doesn't speak when the morning comes.

"Only the road can judge what a soldier becomes — and the road don't speak when the morning comes."

The production

This one has a real arc. It opens cold — deep bass pulse, mournful piano, distant hi-hats — like headlights cutting through fog. The first verse rides a confident, low flow. Then the instrumental break brings in a soulful piano lead and a West Coast g-funk synth over the deep house kick — that's the bridge between 2Pac's world and mine.

FL Studio for the foundation, DJ.Studio for the final mix and mastering. I kept the arrangement spacious on purpose: the emptiness is the feeling. A crowded mix would have killed the loneliness the track is about.

Available everywhere

Confession is now streaming on all major platforms. If you want to support the work directly, the best thing you can do is save the track on Spotify or add it to your Apple Music library. Every save is a signal to the algorithms — and it helps independent artists like me reach more listeners.

What comes next

Confession joins Ghost as part of my growing collection of originals. The Murat Koff × 2Pac remix series continues every Tuesday and Thursday — but I'm now alternating between remixes and original productions like this one. More are already in the studio.
