What Deezer announced
On October 13, Deezer announced an on/off toggle that lets users exclude fully AI-generated music — tracks, albums and the artists tied to them — from search results. Switching it off brings that music back. A global rollout is planned before the end of 2026, with no exact date yet, according to Music Business Worldwide and Digital Music News.
One thing is not defined in the reporting: where "fully AI-generated" ends and "AI-assisted" begins. That line will decide who gets filtered, and producers who use software every day should be watching it.
The numbers behind it
Deezer says it now receives roughly 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks a day — up from about 10,000 when its detection tool launched in January 2025 — and that on peak days they are more than half of all new music delivered. Yet they account for only about 1% to 3% of streams. The company also says that up to 85% of the streams on these tracks in 2025 were fraudulent, and that it keeps those streams out of royalty payments.
Read that again: a flood of uploads, almost no real listeners, and most of the listening that does exist was fake. It connects directly to the streaming-fraud case that ended in a prison sentence and to the US Copyright Office inquiry I covered last week.
«A filter is not taste. It only tells you who is allowed to be heard.» — Murat Koff
My honest take
I like that listeners get a choice. People who want human-made music should be able to find it without digging through a flood. But a switch inside one app is a decision made by a platform, and platforms change their minds. Today the filter protects human artists; tomorrow the definition could shift, and a real producer could be caught on the wrong side of it.
That is why I keep repeating the same thing: do not build your whole career inside someone else's settings menu. The listener who follows you — not a feed, not a toggle — is the one who stays. It is the same tenant-versus-owner point from when Spotify killed the remix.
Keep a direct line to your listeners.
One of the 7 lessons in my course, "Build a Pro Website with AI", covers the contact form, an email list and a clear privacy page — so people can reach you and hear from you without any platform in between. No code, $25, in English. No promises about traffic or income — just the method behind this site.
See the 7 lessons →My line stays the same: AI tools helped me build this website, in three languages. The music is made by hand. If you want to see what human growth looks like, read how I made a viral deep house remix.
