What's official means here
For an independent artist, having a track land on Vevo is a credibility upgrade that's hard to overstate. Vevo is the music video distribution network behind almost every major-label release you've ever seen on YouTube. It's where major-label artists put their official videos.
Getting Ghost on Vevo through DistroKid's artist channel program means this isn't just another upload on a producer's channel anymore. It's catalogued, distributed, and verified like a label release — without the label. That's the part I'm proud of.
Why Ghost is the right track for this
Ghost was the first original. Before it, the catalog was all 2Pac × Deep House remixes — the series that built the audience. Ghost was the moment I said: I have my own thing too. Let me show you.
It's the track that proved deep house could carry weight without leaning on a sample. No 2Pac vocals. No DMX delivery. Just me, the synths, and an idea about what stays present after someone disappears. It deserved to be the first one with an official video.
"Ghost was the proof. The video is the receipt."
The distribution
For other independent producers reading this — here's exactly how it works:
- DistroKid handles the music distribution to Spotify, Apple, YouTube Music, etc.
- For YouTube specifically, DistroKid has a partnership with Vevo for eligible artists
- Your music video gets uploaded to the official Vevo channel and counted as official catalog content
- Discoverability gets a measurable bump — Vevo videos are prioritized in YouTube Music search
If you're an indie producer with original music, this is one of the most underrated moves you can make. It costs almost nothing extra beyond your DistroKid subscription.
Where this fits in the bigger plan
The originals catalog now has five tracks — Ghost, Confession, Vow, Poker, and Ember. Ghost being the first to get the official video treatment is intentional. Each of the others will get one too, in time. The catalog grows. The visual identity grows with it.
For the story behind the Ghost track itself — the production decisions, the lyrics-free emotional architecture, the 2Pac connection — read the original article on Ghost here. This page is about the video. That one is about the song.
How to support
If you want to help push Ghost further — three things that actually move the needle:
- Save it on Spotify or Apple Music — long-term streams matter more than one-time plays
- Watch the official video fully on YouTube — completion rate is a key Vevo metric
- Share the link with someone who drives at night and would understand
The next official video is already on the way. Confession or Vow next? Inner Circle subscribers will hear first. Sign up below.
