The word remember as a verb
Remember is the only word in the English language that is both a command and a survival strategy. It tells you what to do — and at the same time it's how you stay alive after you're gone. The people who get remembered are the people who outlived the body.
2Pac wrote like he knew time was short. Read his catalog with that lens and almost every verse becomes an instruction: don't forget me. Don't forget us. Don't let what we said die with the people who said it. That instruction is the architecture this remix is built around.
Why deep house for this
A faster genre would let you skip past it. A slower one would feel like grief. Deep house — at 122 BPM, sustained, patient — is the tempo of still here. It's the speed of someone driving without a destination, of someone visiting a place that no longer exists, of someone keeping a promise nobody else witnessed.
The pads on Remember are wider than usual and they hold longer than they need to. That's not a production accident. That's the architecture of memory itself — something that doesn't release just because the moment is over.
"What you remember is what you carry. What you carry is what you become."
The production
I built Remember around a single sustained tone in the lower-mid register that runs from the first bar to the last. It never resolves. It never modulates. It just stays — like the thing you don't talk about but never let go of.
The bass enters late, quiet, and grows slowly. The percussion is restrained — kick, hat, and a single delayed clap that arrives a beat after you expect it. That delay is the whole emotional move. It's the sound of the thought you keep coming back to.
Who this is for
This isn't for celebration. This is for the long drive after.
- The night driver visiting a place that doesn't look the same anymore
- The friend you keep meaning to call but never do, and somehow still feel
- The hip-hop listener who knows the catalogues by heart even after all this time
- Anyone whose memory is the only proof of something that was real
Part of the Murat Koff × 2Pac series
Remember sits in the same emotional register as Thug Life and Hellrazor — tracks that lean on weight rather than spectacle. If you want lighter territory in the series, try Kral or Habibi. The whole 2Pac × Deep House series is a catalog of different angles on the same legacy.
New drops every Tuesday and Thursday at 14:00 GMT. Join the Inner Circle below to hear the next one before anyone else.
